Q1. Your husband is so lucky, he must get treatment all the time!A. No! Not at all! As therapists, the last thing we want to do is work when you get home! My children will happily tell you of my ‘chocolate button’ test when they were younger. If they can run and get chocolate buttons, they’re fine! (And before anyone goes mad, obviously I look after them!)
Q2. Who treats you? A. I am pleased to say, my colleague Colm treats me at the clinic. Believe it or not, we as therapists have a lot of injuries etc too! It also helps us to empathise!
Q3. Can I give you a hug? A. Actually this is quite common. People are genuinely grateful for your help and we take it as just that. I actually hugged my dentist once after he had removed a wisdom tooth, I was just so relieved!
Q4. How do you handle listening to people’s problems all day? A. Well, part of our training is in sports psychology and I also hold a life coach qualification so it comes pretty easily. Sometimes our clinic can be a safe space for people and we might also be the only people they speak to in that way. Our 4 walls are completely confidential!
Q5. Do you have favourite patients? A. Of course not! We care about every patient that walks through our door. Some may stay in touch with us and some will go merrily on their way. We do love to hear how people are doing though!
Q6. Do other patients do this/that? A. People are often interested in how other patients are doing. We never discuss details of other patients but we might give scenarios to put someone’s mind at rest!
