Are you exercising outdoors?

There are just so many benefits to exercising outdoors, why don’t we do it more often?
Ok, the British weather is a tad unpredictable but you know what they say, “no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing’….and it’s pretty true!
If the weather is nice, I quite often do some active recovery such as stretching or yoga in the garden…I’m sure my neighbours love it!
Going for a jog in light rain is ideal, not too hot, not too cold and you have a nice cooling effect from the rain. Exercising outdoors also raises your vitamin D level, something I especially lack from working indoors all day in a room with no windows!
Being outside is also fantastic for your mental health. We know from research that your brain has a higher level of serotonin on bright sunny days. Serotonin is one of the body’s mood stabilisers, so if you’re feeling a bit down or anxious, get outside!
Exercising outdoors can also give you a different experience whilst training. The view, terrain and weather can be changing and add to a different experience and challenge. Hopefully you’re in a place where the air is clean, as we know that indoor air is mostly more polluted than fresh outdoor air.
The best part of exercising outside – it’s FREE! Go for a walk, add some bodyweight exercise such as lunges, press ups or star jumps and you’ll really feel the benefit!
If you need some exercise ideas, let us know, we are always happy to help or signpost you to someone that can!
