Medical Acupuncture follows Western approved anatomy and physiology which differs from Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is thought that Acupuncture works by inhibiting pain signals to the brain, releasing endorphins (our bodies natural pain killers) and initiating a localised natural healing response.
Conditions such as cancer, diabetes, poor skin condition, lymphoedema and haemophilia or other clotting disorders are contraindicated. Like most treatment options it may not suit everyone but this can be discussed with your clinician to find the most suitable treatment option for you.
Possible side-affects are tiredness, bruising, itching, localised pain for the first 24hrs, nausea, dizziness and feinting. However, the likelihood of these are low and the majority of patients experience no adverse reactions at all.
Your appointment is 60minutes long, your clinician will conduct a thorough history and examination of your injury and prescribe the most appropriate treatment for you.
